Specialized Laboratory Tests

Specialized lab diagnostics are an additional tool to help in assessment and subsequent treatment of some conditions. Dr. Edalati will assess each patient individually and if such testing is required, she will make the appropriate recommendations.

Food Allergy Test
SIBO Breath Test
Hormone Analysis
Digestive Analysis
Nutritional Testing
Candida Stool Culture
Heavy Metal Toxic Analysis

Food Allergy Test

This is a comprehensive food allergy blood test using the ELISA testing method, checking for IgG antibodies to different types of foods including different grains, meats, seafood, nuts, dairy, vegetables, fruits and more. Test results also indicate the degree to which an individual is reactive to a certain food, from low to high reactivity, this degree of sensitivity allows us to know which foods must be completely eliminated (for at least some period of time) and which ones can still be consumed on a rotational basis.

SIBO Breath Test

SIBO refers to a condition called Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth. SIBO Breath Test measures the levels of hydrogen and methane, which are two gases, produced by bacteria in response to glucose or lactulose (sugars). Humans do not produce these gases. These gases are a result of fermentation of these sugars by bacteria. If the levels of these gases increase to an abnormal level, then SIBO is diagnosed. Complications from untreated chronic SIBO may range from mild vitamin and mineral deficiencies to more severe malabsorption and even weight loss.

Some of the symptoms of SIBO may include:

  • Bloating and distention
  • Excessive gassiness
  • Indigestion
  • Abdominal pain/cramps
  • Diarrhea/constipation

Some of the conditions associated with SIBO (as cause, effect or coexisting):

  • Acne
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Depression/anxiety
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Hypochlorydria (low stomach acid)
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
  • Interstitial cystitis
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Leaky gut syndrome
  • Rosacea

Urine Hormone Analysis

Depending on the condition, some or all of the following levels of hormones will be tested: estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, thyroid, cortisol, cortisone.

Some of the indications for Hormone Analysis:

  • Adrenal Fatigue
  • PMS
  • Insomnia
  • Fertility Issues
  • Miscarriage
  • Hot Flashes
  • Memory Issues
  • Fibroids
  • PCOS
  • Depression/Irritability
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Weight Fluctuations
  • Anti-aging

Comprehensive Digestive Analysis

Gastrointestinal related complaints such as bloating and gas, irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion, malabsorption and other conditions linked to poor digestive health may benefit from this analysis

This is a diagnostic tool that helps identify specific pathogens and the alteration of the bacterial balance of the gut, which affects both the digestive and absorptive function of the gastrointestinal tract and may contribute to an array of conditions.

Comprehensive Nutritional Testing
This test is a comprehensive nutritional assessment that is important for a broad variety of clinical conditions. It serves as an important guideline for both treatment of different conditions as well as preventatively. Certain pharmaceutical medications such as antacids, oral contraceptives, cholesterol medications, anti-inflammatories, diabetic and cardiovascular medications also deplete the body of certain nutrients, making this test an important tool in detecting any nutrient deficiencies in those individuals who are taking any of these medications.

*Spectrox is a total antioxidant function test which assesses the ability of cells to resist damage caused by free radicals and other forms of oxidative stress.

**Immunidex score is one measurement to evaluate a person’s cell-mediated immune system performance. Specifically, it measures T-cell lymphocyte proliferation. Since immune function is a systemic measure of general health, a higher Immunidex score is generally desired since it means a person can respond efficiently not only to exogenous threats such as pathogens or allergens, but also to endogenous threats like tumors.

Candida Stool Culture

Stool is cultured to detect presence of Candida Albicans.

Some of the symptoms of Candida overgrowth may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Bloating/Gas
  • Headaches
  • Lack of Concentration
  • Mood Swings
  • Bad Breath
  • Sweet Cravings
  • Chronic Nasal Congestion

Heavy Metal Toxic Analysis

Heavy metals disrupt different systems in the body including the nervous, hormonal, and immune system. Proper assessment of heavy metal burden and the elimination of these toxic substances can be an important step in the treatment of some of today’s chronic diseases. Heavy metal overload can contribute to different illnesses and can also exacerbate the intensity of some existing conditions.

This is comprehensive test that measures toxic metals such as mercury, lead and arsenic among other metals.
